No comments show up after submitting a comment. Why is that? I’ve tried multiple times and it doesn’t seem to stick. Perhaps you are spam filtering. If so, then a page or some type of notice to end user that we’ve received your comment would be beneficial to prevent duplicate postings.

Of course it just worked on this page, but didn’t on others, so are some pages locked down preventing comments to be submitted?

Contributor Agreement

AmiBroker.com Individual Contributor License Agreement

In order to clarify the intellectual property license granted with Contributions from any person or entity, AmiBroker.com must have a Contributor License Agreement (”CLA”) on file that has been signed by each Contributor, indicating agreement to the license terms below. This license is for your protection as a Contributor as well as the protection of AmiBroker.com and its users; it does not change your rights to use your own Contributions for any other purpose. If you have not already done so, please complete and sign electronically this form. Please read this document carefully before signing and keep a copy for your records.

Full name: ____________________________ E-Mail: ___________________

Mailing Address: ______________________ Telephone: ___________________

_______________________________________ Country: ___________________

You accept and agree to the following terms and conditions for Your present and future Contributions submitted to AmiBroker.com. Except for the license granted herein to AmiBroker.com and recipients of software distributed by AmiBroker.com, You reserve all right, title, and interest in and to Your Contributions.

1. Definitions. “You” (or “Your”) shall mean the copyright owner or legal entity authorized by the copyright owner that is making this Agreement with AmiBroker.com. For legal entities, the entity making a Contribution and all other entities that control, are controlled by, or are under common control with that entity are considered to be a single Contributor. For the purposes of this definition, “control” means (i) the power, direct or indirect, to cause the direction or management of such entity, whether by contract or otherwise, or (ii) ownership of fifty percent (50%) or more of the outstanding shares, or (iii) beneficial ownership of such entity.

“Contribution” shall mean any original work of authorship, including any modifications or additions to an existing work, that is intentionally submitted by You to AmiBroker.com for inclusion in, or documentation of, any of the products owned or managed by AmiBroker.com (the “Work”). For the purposes of this definition, “submitted” means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent to AmiBroker.com or its representatives, including but not limited to communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems, and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, AmiBroker.com for the purpose of discussing and improving the Work, but excluding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise designated in writing by You as “Not a Contribution.”

2. Grant of Copyright License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, You hereby grant to AmiBroker.com and to recipients of software distributed by AmiBroker.com a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of,
publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute Your Contributions and such derivative works.

3. Grant of Patent License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, You hereby grant to AmiBroker.com and to recipients of software distributed by AmiBroker.com a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable (except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Work, where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable by You that are necessarily infringed by Your Contribution(s) alone or by combination of Your Contribution(s) with the Work to which such Contribution(s) was submitted. If any entity institutes patent litigation against You or any other entity (including a cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that your Contribution, or the Work to which you have contributed,
constitutes direct or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses granted to that entity under this Agreement for that Contribution or Work shall terminate as of the date such litigation is filed.

4. You represent that you are legally entitled to grant the above license. If your employer(s) has rights to intellectual property that you create that includes your Contributions, you represent that you have received permission to make Contributions on behalf of that employer, that your employer has waived such rights for your Contributions to AmiBroker.com, or that your employer has executed a separate Corporate CLA with AmiBroker.com.

5. You represent that each of Your Contributions is Your original creation (see section 7 for submissions on behalf of others). You represent that Your Contribution submissions include complete details of any third-party license or other restriction (including, but not limited to, related patents and trademarks) of which you are personally aware and which are associated with any part of Your Contributions.

6. You are not expected to provide support for Your Contributions, except to the extent You desire to provide support. You may provide support for free, for a fee, or not at all. Unless required by applicable law or agreed to in writing, You provide Your Contributions on an “AS IS” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or implied, including, without limitation, any warranties or conditions of TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

7. Should You wish to submit work that is not Your original creation, You may submit it to AmiBroker.com separately from any Contribution, identifying the complete details of its source and of any license or other restriction (including, but not limited to, related patents, trademarks, and license agreements) of which you are personally aware, and conspicuously marking the work as “Submitted on behalf of a third-party: [named here]“.

8. You agree to notify AmiBroker.com of any facts or circumstances of which you become aware that would make these representations inaccurate in any respect.

About

The AmiBroker User’s Knowledge Base (UKB) was created to make it easier for AmiBroker users to share code, ideas, experiences, and everything else that has to do with trading. The AmiBroker community is rich in expertise in virtually every aspect of trading, and the potential for sharing knowledge is huge. Many excellent programs and tutorials, ranging from basic to very advanced, have been uploaded to Yahoo files, one of the AmiBroker lists, or the AmiBroker library.

Libraries and file sections contain mostly programs that perform high-level functions. These are programs that, in general, do not give you much guidance to successful system design and trading. The problem is that all these marvelous contributions are scattered about, and to find what you need can be time-consuming and burdensome. After fruitless attempts at finding coding examples, many users give up and decide to solve the problem themselves.

The amount of time wasted collectively across the AmiBroker community due to reinventing the wheel is staggering, as evidenced by repetitive questions (and answers) on the forums. If even a small amount of this time could be channeled into original work, new trading frontiers would be opened up, raising the average competence level of AmiBroker users to a new high. This would transform traditional Technical Analysis into a more interesting and vibrant activity.

The primary objective of this site is to facilitate such a transformation in Technical Analysis for the AmiBroker user by providing an indexed and browsable resource for solutions to common problems that every AmiBroker user needs to solve.

The UKB site is based on an easy-to-use state-of-the-art publishing platform called WordPress. Those who wish to contribute may either write their posts directly in WordPress or in their favorite word processing program. Contributions in MS-Word can be uploaded to the UKB using Windows Live Writer (a free Windows editor). For details on how to contribute see the Contributor Agreement and the Author Guide.

The simplest way for you to contribute is to add constructive comments to the posts. IF explanations are inadequate or you know a better solution, you can make a comment to that effect. If you already developed similar code or posted an alternative solution somewhere else, you may add tutorial text and submit it to the UKB. Almost certainly your work will find more appreciation here.

How to ask technical questions and suggest new technical topics and/or categories is outlined here.

User participation is the key ingredient needed to make this site work. Since this site will benefit all AmiBroker users, no matter what their level of expertise, I am confident that participation in this project will grow.

We all are dependent on AmiBroker and its unbridled support and resources. The eventual payback to the entire AmiBroker community makes it just plain common sense to participate if you can. I encourage you to do so as much as possible.

How do we sign up? Need a little guidance here in this great introduction. Maybe mention the contributor agreement, author guide, and other such high level documents.

Are anonymous comments allowed? If this comment is successful, the answer is yes.

To sign-up as a CONTRIBUTOR you need to sign the contributor agreement on-line. Then your submission will be reviewed manually and you will get further instructions.

Anonymous comments are not allowed, as each comment is checked for spam. But you don’t need to sign-up to write comments. Just write a comment. It will be checked and allowed to appear if it is spam-free.

Where can we make suggestions for things we would like to see in the UKB?

I would like to see definitions of most of the built-in functions in AFL code. This would be useful for a few reasons. Often I just need the specifics of how a function works. Sometimes I want to make my own variation, and rather than recreating what someone else has done, we can share it here.

    Hello Daniel,

re suggestions and questions please see
    http://www.amibroker.org/userkb/2007/07/18/how-to-make-suggestions-and-ask-questions/

Most functions are documented in the AmiBroker Help file. To see more applications for a particular function you can search the AmiBroker Library or this site. I am afraid that to provide more examples for ‘all’ available functions is beyond the scope of this site - all contributions here are made on a time available basis by volunteers. However, specific questions and problems can be requested/suggested as outlined in the above link.

The documentation for functions in the AmiBroker help is barely adequate for providing a hint about what the functions do. What I want is equivalent AFL code that gives the identical result. For example, there are a few ways to compute standard deviation, but what specifically does StDev do? It is simplest and most useful to provide the definition in equivalent AFL code. I plan to contribute many of these, but I just wanted a place to start.

Hello Daniel, I have created an introductory post in the AFL category outlining the general documentation problem, how users can cope with it, and how they can help to improve the situation.

Of course we’d love to have your contributions! Please browse the various categories/topics on this site, there is already a lot of information on how to contribute and prepare posts.

Author Guide

Site Authorization
Anyone can publish on the UKB site, but unmoderated publishing is restricted to registered authors. If you want to publish directly, you need to request authorization from the site administrator and sign a Contributor Agreement. Since authors have the authority to edit and delete existing posts (including those of others), registered authorship is reserved for serious contributors.

Once you have contributed to this site, you are encouraged to file an Author Profile so that readers know a little more about you. If you wish, you can show your email address in your profile so that readers can contact you.

The Authors’ Forum
The Authors’ Forum is a private Yahoo group named AmiBroker-UKB. This is where the site-administrator and authors discuss UKB site content, evolvement, and publishing procedures. Currently, most discussions deal with site organization and publishing procedures, but, as the site matures, discussions will focus more on content and collaborative publishing projects. If you seriously plan to contribute but have not registered as an author yet, please submit a one-paragraph outline of your plans to the list owner and request to be added to the list.

Publishing Criteria
Please read the official Contributor Agreement and Terms of Use first. Contributions on all topics related to Trading and/or the AmiBroker product are welcome. This is not a library or file section, and posts should be written in a tutorial format.
Advertising commercial products and/or posting product manuals without substantial tutorial content will not be allowed. However, you can announce commercial products if they are accompanied by a meaningful tutorial and example AFL code. Readers should be able to evaluate the product without obligation to purchase any products. Posts of this type may be moderated. Here also, if your contribution is significant and you feel it deserves its own category, you may request that a special category be created.

The Publishing Procedure
You may use any publishing format that can be imported into WordPress. A few simple publishing procedures are outlined below. See also Using WordPress and http://codex.wordpress.org/Writing_Posts for tips on writing a Post in WordPress. If the UKB does not have a suitable category for your contribution, you can request the Editor to create it for you.

Formatting text and AFL code in posts
WordPress does not support fancy formatting, and generally when you write your post, you should minimize formatting using editors like Notepad or the Microsoft WLW (Windows Live Writer).
Special tags are used to format AFL code. The following code has a beginning and ending AFL tag:

AFLTags

When this text is saved the text in between the tags will be formatted and colored as it is in the AmiBroker formula editor as shown below.

1
2
3
4
Plot(O,"Open",colorWhite,styleLine);
Plot(H,"High",colorGreen,styleLine);
Plot(L,"Low",colorRed,styleLine);
Plot(C,"Close",colorBlack,styleLine);

Contributions in Comment fields
Probably the simplest way to share programming techniques and small tutorials is to write the contribution, remove formatting (paste to and copy back from Notepad works fine), and paste your contribution to the comment field of a closely related post. Anonymous comments are not allowed, as each comment is checked for spam. If your contribution is interesting, you may be contacted by one of the authors with the request to convert the comment into a full Post so that it will show up in the Table of Contents of the UKB.

Writing a Post directly in WordPress
This is another simple way to create a post, but you need to be a registered author. WordPress has a short learning curve; the best way is to read the WordPress Documentation and familiarize yourself with the procedures. The UKB site has a Test category where you can upload your test documents and edit them. Please select the Test category before publishing.

Writing a Post in Word
You can write a post in Microsoft Word, copy it to the Microsoft WLW (Windows Live Writer), and upload it the UKB from there. The procedure is:

  1. Write in Word
  2. Copy AmiBroker formulas with “copy as HTML” Off
  3. Paste the AFL formula into Word as “paste special - unformatted text”
  4. Add [ AFL ] and [ /AFL ] tags in Word (omit spaces inside square brackets).
  5. Insert images into Word
  6. Copy the entire document from Word and paste it into WLW.
  7. After setting up the publishing parameters click Publish

Attaching .doc and .pdf files to Posts
If you previously written documents, for example in Word or .pdf format, you can attach them to introductory Posts. The disadvantage of this approach is that the WordPress search engine doesn’t reach into attached documents, and your publication will be omitted from search results. The work-around is to write a detailed post containing all important keywords or even to copy the Table of Contents to the Post.
